Our philosophy & practices
Our way of farming focuses on soil health, and our methods respect the land and follow what happens in nature.
When soil is healthy, it produces more food and nutrition. How does Opa’s make sure our soil is healthy? It’s about what we do – and about what we don’t do.
We don’t use pesticides – they are known to kill the soil microbes that are at the heart of soil life.
We avoid soil compaction, since it prevents roots from getting down deep. That means we’re strategic about how, when and why we use heavy equipment on our soil.

As our animals rotate through our pastures grazing, they are fertilizing it with the nutrients from their manure.
So what we feed our animals matters a lot. Our feed has been formulated for maximum retention of important nutrients. It’s organic and contains absolutely no genetically modified ingredients or pesticides.
Not only does this mean we’re raising the healthiest animals possible, but we are protecting the health of the soil that they fertilize, and contributing to the health of the consumers who eat our products. In other words, our regenerative methods help create a healthy food system.
